Double dipping in the apple dessert realm? Yes please. There are no words to explain how awesome it tasted. Later that night we made homemade Apple Cinnamon Ice Cream to go with the apple dumplings. It tasted amazing nonetheless!Įxactly as I had hoped, a perfectly crispy crust with a gooey center. When I first baked the apple dumplings we had not yet made our run to the grocery store for vanilla ice cream so I made due with what we had: cookies and cream. You’ll have to excuse the choice of ice cream here. I probably went a bit overboard with the butter and Mountain Dew, hence the large amount of excess liquid left in the pan, but this was perfect to drizzle over the dumplings and ice cream right before serving. Crisp green apples are wrapped in soft dumplings and baked in a sweet cinnamon sauce, made with brown sugar and Mountain Dew. (I say everything is better with ice cream, but that’s just me). These are now ready to be served hot with a side of ice cream, even though my husband says it is just as good without it. Here they are out of the oven, with a few dumplings already MIA. Mmmm… look at that cinnamon sugar goodness… Yes, I could have made some homemade pie crust dough but in all honesty I think the crescent rolls give this dessert the perfect texture of flaky awesomeness. The kids helped with this dish, working on rolling the apples up in the dough and placing them in the 9×13 baking dish. Place them in a small bowl and toss with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 tablespoon white sugar and 1 tablespoon brown sugar. The crust is nothing more than cresent rolls from the store. Peel the apples, core and then cut each apple into 8 wedges. What’s crazy is it is exactly what makes this recipe so amazingly mouth-watering and I would never omit it from this recipe. That beverage you probably consumed too much of in high school and college, the drink that is electrifyingly yellow, the soda you grab when its late and you need something to wake you up. So what is the black sheep of the ingredients you ask? Brace yourself…. So sweet, so flavorful, good apple dumplings are crispy on the outside while soft and gooey on the inside. Naturally the question was which yummy apple recipe should we bake first? My immediate thought was apple dumplings. We recently visited our local apple orchard and came home with an entire bag of amazing apples. Starting with shortest side of triangle, roll to opposite point, wrapping dough around apple slice arrange in pan. This recipe makes a GREAT conversation piece…ask everyone to guess the *secret ingredient…they never will, hehe.You know when you have that list of ingredients for a dish and there’s that ONE ingredient that just does not seem to fit it? You know, “ one of these things is not like the other”. Place 1 apple slice on shortest side of each dough triangle. Here they are fresh and piping hot out of the oven. Core the apple and cut each apple into 6 wedges. Bake uncovered in a 350 oven for appx 35 mins. Grease a 8 X 10 inch baking dish with margarine and set aside. Pour sauce over apple dumpling then add Mountain Dew to the sides. In a medium sauce pan add 1 cup butter, 1/2 cup white sugar, 1 cup brown sugar, and 1 tsp vanilla. Granny Smith Apples Refrigerated Crescent Roll Dough (I used the Pillsbury brand) Butter White Sugar Ground Cinnamon Mountain Dew Soda or Sprite Don’t forget the vanilla ice cream to serve over top of the warm apple mountain dew dumplings. Melt butter, add sugar and cinnamon and pour over apples. Ingredients for Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings. Place rolled slices in pan in two rows, put extras along side. Start at the wide bottom side and roll up a bit, tuck in sides, then continue rolling. Roll each apple slice in 1 section of crescent roll. Whisk together the melted butter, cup sugar and vanilla. Wrap each apple slice in one of the dough triangles and set in the greased baking dish. Place one slice of apple onto one triangle of crescent roll. Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate the triangles. Peel, core and slice 3 Granny Smith apples (that is all you will need, honest). Trust me, you’ll be asked for the recipe over and over. You would never believe the secret ingredient …once you try this recipe, it will be your “go to” for quick and easy desserts.
